How Often Should I Replace My Custom Orthotics
An orthosis that ruptures, tears, or even wears may affect you more than you realize. From walking to causing back pain and headaches to hinder your comfort, worn orthoses can make your body do more harm than good. So how do you know when to replace your custom orthosis?Usually, just look at and consider some factors to determine if you need to change the time.
Although there is no strict timetable, most custom orthoses will last for one to five years. Determining if they need to be replaced depends on their appearance and frequency of use.
Pain - If you experience any type of pain, whether on the back, on the feet or on the ankle, you may need to replace your orthosis. You should not feel pain when standing, jogging or even jumping into the orthosis. In addition, your feet should not be painful to the old man or the corns, which is a sign of your feet rubbing inside the shoes.
Age - Most orthoses will last for one to five years. If your custom orthosis is made of hard plastic, it is usually only replaced every three to five years. However, if they are made of soft plastic or foam, they may need to be replaced every year. Consult your insurance company before replacing the orthosis. Sometimes your insurance company may allow replacement or upgrade every year or every few years
