How to Deal with Cold Feet at Home

Chilly feet are practically unavoidable during the winter, especially when the weather is cold and damp. It’s possible that your feet are pale and frigid to the touch.

The medical and frequent reasons of chilly feet will be covered in this blog, as well as some home remedies.

The following medical disorders may cause your feet to be cold:

Raynaud’s Syndrome

Diabetes Mellitus (DM)

Peripheral vascular disease (PVD)

Hypothyroidsim

Anaemia

High levels of cholesterol

Smoking

Sedentary way of life

Several drugs

BMI is too low

Make a Leg Movement

If you work in an office or sit for lengthy periods of time, your blood supply to your feet may be reduced.

Moving your legs by taking a short stroll every hour encourages blood circulation in your feet.

Socks

If your feet sweat a lot, they may become wet. To keep your feet as dry as possible, it is critical to change your socks once or twice a day. Cotton or wool socks are the most absorbent materials.

Warm, thick woolen socks help to keep your feet warm. Two pairs of thin socks insulate better than one pair of thick socks. Make sure the elastic isn’t too tight, as this could restrict circulation to your feet.

Footwear

It is critical that your footwear be warm, well-fitting, and waterproof. Feet that become wet become cooler and can also create a breeding ground for fungal and bacterial illnesses. Footwear should be properly dried before wearing.

Shoes that are either little or too big might also compromise your feet’s insulation and reduce their comfort. Ill-fitting shoes can cause friction and compression on your feet’s skin, causing pain and eventually breaking the skin by generating blisters or sores.

Quit Smoking

When you smoke, the blood arteries in your feet tighten, preventing blood from flowing to your feet. Consult your doctor about quitting smoking choices.

De-Stress

High levels of stress and worry induce the body to create adrenaline, which forces blood vessels to contract in order to conserve energy for a fight or flight reaction.

Nutrition

Eat a warm meal at least once a day to give your body the energy it needs to generate heat. You can contact a member of our nutrition team by clicking here.

Moisturise

Use a urea-based moisturizer to keep the skin of your feet in good condition, but avoid putting it between the toes to avoid skin breakdown.

Getting Your Feet Warm

To immediately warm your feet, soak them in warm water for 10 minutes and then completely dry them.

Avoid putting direct heat near your feet, such as a hot water bottle or radiator, as this can cause skin burns or chilblains.

If your feet exhibit the following symptoms, you should consult your doctor:

The color is red/purple and it is frigid to the touch.

Numbness or pins and needles sensation

Pain

Loss of mobility

A skin break or a sore that takes a long time to heal
