Stinky Feet

The Horrible Truth About Why Your Feet Smell (and How to Fix That)

The usage of silver in footwear has sparked a lot of curiosity in recent years. Antibacterial properties of silver have been known since ancient times. It is being used to treat burns and prevent infection.

So, what effect does it have on the foot? Consider your footwear for a moment. Take them in your arms. Keep them close to your face. Take a big breath in…

Hesitant?
Why?
Do they have a strong odor?

That odor is caused by a primeval soup of bacteria, ammonia, and denatured proteins (dead skin, for example). An odor triangle is what it’s called. Bacteria establishes a home in your shoes. It eats the proteins and produces ammonia as a by-product when it dies. That’s what’s been growing and dying within your shoes, in the warm, moist environment. That’s what stinks, and it’s getting close to your feet!

There is, however, a savior. It’s made of silver. Silver suffocates microorganisms by strangling them. Silver inhibits bacteria’s respiration and reproduction, resulting in their death and the absence of odor. The odor goes away once the bacteria is gone.

That’s great news. As a result, silver can remove the stench from your filthy shoes. But how does this benefit anyone other than your spouse? So, what if you had diabetes? We’ve all heard horror stories about diabetic patients losing their toes and feet. That occurs when wounds develop and are unable to heal because to a lack of white blood cells due to inadequate circulation. Bacteria from soiled socks and shoes enters the wound, causing infection. If you had silver in your shoes, it would go to work destroying the germs and preventing the majority of it from getting into the wound. It’s not failsafe, but it’s a good way to protect yourself from diabetic foot problems.

You get an added benefit from silver as well. It aids in the prevention of blisters and hot areas. When there is persistent friction in the shoe, a blister or hot area develops. This could be due to ill-fitting shoes or the fact that you’re doing something repetitive, such as walking or jogging! Rubbing your foot against the inside of your shoe will produce friction, which will lead to a blister, exactly as rubbing two sticks together to make fire. Silver has the ability to transport heat. So, if it gets hot at one spot, the entire area absorbs a small portion of that heat and distributes it across the material’s surface. Basically, because the heat isn’t focused in one spot, you’re less prone to suffer blisters. Your foot remains cool, and you are free of pain.

Silver apparel can be found in a variety of styles on the internet. Silver shoes are a little more difficult to come by. There used to be only a few shops where I could get this style of footwear. Unfortunately, the shoes are no longer available at aideastep.com. But, thankfully, we now offer silver-infused orthotics and socks to replace the silver in the shoe. The website also includes a choice of different products for diabetics and those who simply want to wear comfy shoes. Silver has numerous advantages and is a well-kept secret in the footwear and diabetes industries. Articles on its benefits for patients with diabetes have only recently begun to appear in the last three years. For quite some time, the sports industry has used silver in its clothes, and it will soon be a well-known commodity in medical footwear.
