Have you experienced heel pain and discomfort in your life, especially when you press the soles of your feet, you find that the tender points are often on the soles of your feet near the heel? Is the pain severe when you wake up in the morning and worse when you walk excessively? If you have any of these symptoms, you may have plantar fasciitis.

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

The so-called plantar fasciitis is simply caused by aseptic inflammation of the tendon or fascia on the sole of the foot. The function of the plantar fascia is like the bowstring of the bow, which is used to maintain the shape of the arch of the foot.

You are more likely than others to develop plantar fasciitis if you:

  1. Often wear high heels
  2. Larger body weight
  3. Often need to walk and climb stairs, and stand for a long time
  4. Congenital foot arch abnormalities, such as patients with high or flat arches

In addition, plantar fascia is usually accompanied by heel spurs. Past experience believes that the cause of heel pain is bone spurs.

However, the current view is that bone spurs are not the cause of heel pain, and removal of bone spurs is not effective in relieving pain and treating plantar fasciitis because the bone spurs are only a compensatory mechanism.

Treatment for plantar fasciitis

  1. Shock wave

An extracorporeal shock wave is a mechanically pulsed pressure wave transmitted through a physical mechanism medium (air or gas).

It can not only make the tissue produce pain-inhibiting substances, but its stress effect can also achieve the effect of loosening adhesions. It is currently the most effective treatment for plantar fasciitis.

  1. Inject corticosteroids

It can effectively relieve pain, but it is prone to complications, such as fascia rupture.

  1. Insole

The purpose of the insole is mainly to correct the shape of the arch of the foot, thereby reducing the pressure on the sole of the foot.

  1. Home training

①Fascial ball plantar relaxation: lightly step on the fascial ball or tennis ball, rub the left and right feet back and forth, rolling massage.

②Standing on an inclined board: adjust the inclined board to an acceptable height, dorsiflex your feet after standing on it, keep your body upright, and avoid shaking back and forth.
