Latex generally refers to a colloidal emulsion formed by dispersing polymer particles in water. Also known as latex. It is customary to refer to the aqueous dispersion of rubber particles as latex, and the aqueous dispersion of resin particles as emulsion. Latex can be divided into 3 categories: natural, synthetic and man-made.
①Natural latex
It is the liquid that flows out from rubber trees of a certain age when they are tapped according to the specified cut at the specified time. It is milky white, with a solid content of 30% to 40% and an average rubber particle size of 1.06 microns. Fresh natural latex contains rubber components 27%~41.3% (by mass), natural latex pillows, water 44%~70%, protein 0.2%~4.5%, natural resin 2%~5%, sugar 0.36%~4.2%, ash 0.4%. In order to prevent natural latex from coagulating due to the action of microorganisms and enzymes, ammonia and other stabilizers are often added. Natural latex is mainly used to make sponge products, extruded products and impregnated products.
②Synthetic latex
It is generally prepared by emulsion polymerization, such as polybutadiene latex, styrene-butadiene latex, etc. In order to make the solid content reach 40%~70%, the rubber particles are first agglomerated into larger particles, and then concentrated by a method similar to natural latex. Synthetic latex is mainly used in industrial sectors such as carpets, papermaking, textiles, printing, coatings and adhesives.
③Artificial latex
It is a non-emulsion polymerized rubber latex. Add water and surfactant to the colloid produced by solution polymerization to disperse the rubber particles in water, and then distill off the solvent. If the rubber cannot be fully dissolved in the solvent, the raw rubber and rubber compound can be continuously kneaded in the presence of a water phase containing an emulsifier until a stable aqueous rubber dispersion is formed. Artificial latex is basically used for the same purposes as synthetic latex.
Uses: Mainly used for latex impregnated products, sponge products, injection molded products, compression molded products.
