What you need to know about foot orthoses 。

Foot orthoses are shoe inserts that can be customized or purchased "off the shelf" according to specified specifications. Custom orthoses are generally considered to be more effective and higher quality than prefabricated foot orthoses. Customized foot orthoses can:

Correct abnormal walking patterns or gait
Relieve pain
provide support
Prevent or prevent the deterioration of foot deformities
Provides better positioning (foot alignment)
Relieve pressure on a certain area of the foot
Improve the overall mechanics of the feet and lower limbs

How to customize a foot orthosis?
The cause of foot pain, whether it is due to injury or disease or condition, determines the type of foot orthosis designed for individual patients. The detachable insole is made by using plaster casting or 3-D laser scanning to make the impression of the foot, and then adjust it if necessary.

Who helps by wearing custom foot orthoses?
The Cochrane review published online on July 16, 2008 evaluated the effectiveness of custom foot orthoses for various types of foot pain. In the review, 11 trials involving 1332 study participants were analyzed:

5 trials evaluated custom foot orthoses for plantar fasciitis (691 participants)
3 trials of rheumatoid arthritis foot pain (231 participants)
1.foot pain test (high arch) (154 participants)
2.test of hallux valgus (cyst) (209 participants)
 3. juvenile idiopathic arthritis trial (47 people)

The Cochrane review concluded:

Among adults with painful abscesses for more than one month, custom-made foot orthoses reduced foot pain after 3 months compared with prosthetic foot orthoses.
In juvenile arthritis patients who were at least 5 years old, custom foot orthoses reduced foot pain after 3 months compared with wearing support shoes, but did not reduce foot pain after 3 months compared with prefabricated neoprene shoe inserts pain.
In adult patients with rheumatoid arthritis, custom-made foot orthoses reduced hind foot pain after 3 months compared with no treatment, but did not reduce foot pain after 3 years compared with false orthoses. Custom orthotics will not relieve big toe joint pain after 6 weeks or 3 months, as opposed to support shoes or non-custom foot orthoses.
For plantar fasciitis, a custom foot orthosis will not relieve pain at 3 or 12 months compared to pseudo-orthopedic. Custom orthoses are no better than night splints in these patients. It may not reduce foot pain after 2 weeks of foot fasciitis, nor will it reduce the operation, mobilization, and stretch comprehensive treatment plan for patients with plantar fasciitis.
In hallux valgus patients younger than 60 years, custom-made foot orthoses reduced foot pain compared to no treatment after 6 months, but may not be as effective as surgery after 6 or 12 months.
The improvement that occurs after using a custom foot orthosis is modest-11, 14 or 19 points on a 100-point scale.
However, any relief measures can alleviate the pain of foot pain patients. If you continue to have pain, ask your doctor if a foot orthosis can help you.
Although the orthopedic effect of correcting arthritis should not be exaggerated or oversold, it seems to have obvious benefits for some patients. This is an option to consider and should be discussed with your doctor. Some people avoid using orthotics because they can be quite expensive. However, over-the-counter orthotics have become popular, and it may also be an option.
